where would you go...

Laura and I are contemplating a small vacation next fall. However, we're still undecided as to where we should go. So, I'm asking all of my readers (thousands upon thousands) to offer their suggestions. Here's the criteria we've come up with so far...
  • Within the US (we can only be gone for 5ish days, so we don't really want to eat up too much of our time traveling)
  • Since Laura's in NY and I'm here in Seattle, it would be nice to meet up somewhere close to the middle...however, that's not a real deal-breaker
  • We need to be able to do inexpensive and/or cheap things while we're there (site-seeing, relaxing at the beach, etc.)
  • Decent weather would be nice, but it's not crucial
  • Somewhat close to an airport...we don't want to be faced with a 6 hour drive once we arrive somewhere

So, what can you suggest? I'm looking forward to some great ideas!

hmmm.that's a tough one-what about somewhere along the Gulf? New Orleans or somewhere in Florida? Let us know what you decide. Sounds fun.

Argghhh.... I just wrote a perfectly persuasive paragraph about visiting CLEVELAND, OHIO and Blogger totally zapped it when I went to post.

Anyway, Clevland OH is a wonderful place to visit in September or October. On the shores of Lake Erie, it has a beautiful, easily walkable downtown with tons of restaurants and shops. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum is a must! Sightseeing day trips could include Amish country, a scenic railroad trip through Cuyahoga Valley National Park, wine country tours, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame Museum. Tons more about visiting Cleveland can be found at http://www.positivelycleveland.com/visiting/.

I vote for florida because I have heard there are some great beaches there (I know Jenny V) did a post on that). I don't know what you guys are looking to do but I know that all I need is some warm weather and a beach to make me happy! Can't get much cheaper than that.

Have you considered SC and Georgia? Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA are both very close to the coast/beach too. Cool cities, tons of history and site seeing. Gorgeous weather (muggy but hot). You could rent a car, start in Charleston, hit the beach for a day or tow then drive to Savannah. Plus the Atlantic is like 80 degrees! Brett and I loved both.

St. Augustine, FL! Beaches, warmth (you'll be missing it once the fall season is here), sun, history...The Yarb. family has visited often and continue to return on a semi-yearly basis. (Not the NW Yarbs but the Southern Yarbs... and I've never been but I heard its fun!) ;)

Hi - I saw your comment on another blog and stopped over to check yours out. You're a 7th grade teacher in Kent??? I spent my first year of teaching at Meeker Junior High!

My two top places I have been to in the US that I would go to over and over again

UTAH- Mt. Zion for awesome hiking, and caving... Sooooo gorgeous you can't believe it.. Plus you know my obsession with Utah-ites

Florida Keys- specifically key West. super cool people, no car needed, drinks all day long. My favorite place in this country I believe

Ummm... Austin, and not just because I would LOVE to see you! :-) But seriously, there are a ton of great chill things to do without spending a bunch of money. And it'll still be super warm in the fall. In fact, you ladies could stay with us if you want. Maybe I should ask the hubs first if it's cool with him as well-- HA! At any rate, Austin is very cool and gets my vote! :-)
